Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley changed its name to AltruVision on July 1, 2023.

Butterflies of Hope Art Shop

Inspired by the powerful symbolism of the butterfly, youth under 18 in our community were invited to create original butterfly-themed artwork representing hope, joy, and new beginnings. We were incredibly moved to receive more than sixty inspiring submissions and are proud to showcase our top three selections.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the talented young artists who shared their creativity and stories with us.
Proceeds from this shop directly support AltruVision’s sight restoration programs.

First Place Winner, Artist Allison, Age 8

Butterflies of Hope Art Shop

Allison’s Artwork was submitted in honor of her friend Eleanour “Ellie”.

Description: Allison is pure of heart and a friend to all. She has a knack for seeing the best in others and always noticing when someone is truly in need of a friend. Allison saw that in a student on the playground when she was in first grade. She got to know her and played with her often. She was thrilled when they were in the same class in second grade. Allison loved many of the same things, musical theater, singing, Frozen, and of course, rainbows. Allison and Ellie became great friends and we were all devastated when Ellie passed last spring from her congenital heart disease. Allison forged a bond with Ellie’s little sister, Maddison and our families have become friends and built something beautiful, a new beginning, after the tragic loss of Ellie. It has been healing for everyone to honor Ellie in this way. When Ellie’s mom shared that her corneas had been donated to AltruVision and shared the information about the art contest, Allison was immediately drawn in and wanted to submit something that represents her friendship with Ellie. We are honored that Ellie’s family chose to help another family through donation even in their darkest hours.

Allison’s butterfly includes the words hope and joy – something that both Allison and Ellie always emulated. Allison included hearts in the wings of the butterfly to represent Ellie’s heart condition, the butterfly is full of rainbow colors, something both girls thoroughly enjoyed, and the butterfly is wearing glasses, “just like Ellie’s glasses.”
