During the month of November, Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley (LEBDV) raised awareness about the life-changing opportunities that are created through eye donation in recognition of national Eye Donation Month.
This year’s national campaign was especially meaningful for LEBDV because one of the eye bank’s grateful recipients— Cameron Whittle —was selected as the face of Eye Donation Month.
At just three years old, Cameron began experiencing visual difficulties including photosensitivity, eye irritation, draining and swelling. At age 13, Cameron was diagnosed with keratoconus and, over time, the disease led to vision loss and corneal tissue scarring. Luckily, in June 2014, after completing his freshman year at Goldey-Beacom, Cameron had a successful corneal transplant surgery and regained vision in his left eye. Cameron believes in paying it forward and honors his cornea donor by volunteering at Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley.
During Eye Donation Month, Lions Eye Bank promoted cornea donation and transplantation awareness; encouraged individuals to register as eye, organ and tissue donors; honored donors and their families; and celebrated cornea recipients.
