Meet Lion Joanne Patchak, a faithful supporter of AltruVision. Joanne’s dedication to service began at an early age.
At just 10 years old, Joanne was forced to grow up quickly when her father developed a serious, progressive vision-related illness. His condition required frequent hospital visits and experimental treatments, placing significant responsibility on Joanne at a young age. As the oldest of three siblings, Joanne developed a strong instinct to care for others during moments of need.
Inspired to help at an early age, Joanne pursued a career in healthcare. She became an X-ray technologist (RT) and worked at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital in Upper Darby, later continuing her career at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia. Her career later expanded into healthcare administration, where she worked for a medical billing and management company to support emergency room doctors.
Joanne’s commitment to AltruVision continues a family legacy of service through the Lions. Her late husband, Henry, was a Lion for many years, and Joanne formally became a Lion one year ago. Her connection to AltruVision is also personal, as she has experienced vision challenges herself, reinforcing her understanding of how essential sight is to independence and quality of life.
When asked what motivates her to support AltruVision’s mission, Joanne answered simply:
“Need. When I see someone in need, I want to help. And if I can’t help financially, I want to guide them.”
Joanne has lived in New Castle, Delaware for decades and remains deeply involved in the community. She regularly opens her home and garden to visitors, welcoming hundreds of guests during public open houses.
She is also an accomplished needlepoint artist, participating in state fairs for more than 20 years and maintaining a box full of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons earned through competition.
Joanne’s story reflects the steady dedication of long-term supporters within our community. Thank you, Joanne, for your continued support of AltruVision’s mission.
