Thanks to the generous financial contributions from our donors, AltruVision has been able to acquire two critical pieces of equipment that significantly enhance the quality and precision of our eye banking services: the Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) system and the Moria Microtome.
The OCT is an advanced imaging tool that provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the cornea. This technology allows our technicians to assess the thickness and quality of donated cornea tissue with unmatched accuracy before it is released for transplant. It ensures that only the most suitable tissue is selected, improving surgical outcomes and reducing complications for recipients.
The Moria Microtome is a specialized precision instrument used to prepare ultra-thin layers of cornea tissue for advanced procedures such as DSAEK and DMEK (partial thickness cornea transplants). Its ability to create consistent, clean cuts increases surgical success rates and helps shorten patient recovery times.
These instruments are not only technological advancements—they are tools of hope. Because of donor generosity, we can provide the highest standard of care in cornea transplantation, helping restore sight to those who need it most.
